Estherville News

A memorial gathering for Rocklyn Eugene Baker, 60, of Terril will be held from 9-11 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at Dell Rapids, S.D. He passed away on July 13, 2018, at his home.

Rocklyn Eugene Baker was born in 1958 to Carroll and Maude, Rocklyn lived within 30 miles of his Estherville/Terril roots for most of his days.

His childhood included hunting and fishing with his dad and brothers, running amok in the streets of Terril, and being an awesome big brother to his four brothers: Tim, Randy, Cameron, and Heath and his two sisters: Rhonda and Pam.

The kindness in his heart was best reflected in his love for animals. Over the years there were dozens of dogs and cats who found their way into his home and found comfort and love under his roof. This kindness overflowed into his passion for helping family, friends, and even complete strangers in their time of need. In addition to his love for pets and family; motorcycles, dragons, Coca-Cola, and fishing for big catfish all tickled his fancy.

Rocky was always great with his hands. From crafting awesome pieces of leathercraft to fixing anything that was broke. Not a week went by without someone asking him to fix this on their car or that in their house and Rock never said no.

Rocklyn was a champion of overcoming obstacles in life. Two big ones were a broken back and the loss of his wife Marilyn to cancer in 2008, but none of these ever broke his spirit and positive outlook. Even while enduring a 2-year battle with cancer of his own, he continued to work, fish, and do favors for his family and friends.

He is now off to the happy hunting grounds to be with his father Carroll, wife Marilyn, and others who have passed before. Left here to remember him are many, many family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.
