Dorothy received her education and graduated from Graettinger High School. She then attended one year at Iowa Lutheran Nursing College in Des Moines. She worked at the Holy Family Hospital in Estherville for a few years and then for 17 years was the coordinator of the Children's Library at the Estherville Public Library, the job she truly loved.

On April 9, 1944, Dorothy was united in marriage to Eldon J. Aanonson at First Lutheran Church in Graettinger. The couple farmed for many years, including the last 40 years back on the Aanonson Century Farm. Dorothy and Eldon were active members of Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Gruver. Dorothy took pride in fulfilling her role as an Iowa farm wife, raising four children, tending the garden, preserving the produce, raising 1,000's of chickens, and sharing the many farm responsibilities with Eldon. Eldon passed away on July 16, 1996. Her past times included reading and quilting. Above all she was a loving mother whose devotion to her family was unwavering, her faith courageous and her gentle sprit will live in those who loved her as well as those whose paths she crossed throughout her life. She cherished being in the company of family and friends.

We are very grateful for the wonderful years we had with our Mom. Her memory will endure in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and the generations to come. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rev. David (Barbara) Aanonson of Coralville, Iowa; Barbara Aanonson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Donald (Tabitha) Aanonson of Cambridge, Iowa; Allan (Peggy) Aanonson of Grimes, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Frances Bortvit Young.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ingham Lake Lutheran Bible Camp or to the Friends of the Estherville Public Library.
