150th Emmet County Fair From start to finish 2018 fair rocks

Two girls, Brandy Kinnander and Kayla Sabin, stepped up to compete for Emmet County Fair Queen this year. Both are rising seniors at North Union High School. Both are from Armstrong. Whichever one would become queen, the two would undoubtedly work great together because they're self-described very close friends.

After Kayla told judges if she could be any color, she'd be turquoise, because it evokes calm and creativity, which also describes her personality, then Brandy said if she could be any animal, she'd be a bird because she loves to travel, is always out and about, and her life is pretty much a musical, the judges made what they described as a tough decision.

Scarlett Rose, 2017 Emmet County Fair Queen, crowned Kayla Sabin the 2018 Queen while Domanique Richardson, 2017 Emmet County Fair Princess, crowned Brandy Kinnander fair princess.

"This is crazy," Kayla said afterward. Kayla will represent Emmet County at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Princess Brandy said she was grateful for her family's support and encouragement at Thursday night's coronation and all through her years of 4H. Brandy is the youngest of five Kinnander children who all went through Emmet County 4-H. Brandy said her favorite 4-H activities were her food and nutrition presentations and entries.

Kayla added, "I'm so excited."
