Algona swimmers still improving

PERRY - The Algona Girls Swim Team made its third trip to Perry and came up short in a double dual with Storm Lake and host Perry. Storm Lake won 96-45 and Perry won 81-60.

Despite the losses, Algona coach Jim Fisher said the meet went well for his team

"It was a good meet for the girls," he said. "There were nine events which showed improvements over the last meet."

The top finishes for the night included first in the 50 freestyle by Laura Stowater in 29.37 versus Perry.

Second places finishes included the following events:

n 200 medley relay team of Stowater, Cheyanne Fries, Kaitlyn Pollock and Cayla Steinman in 2:22.21 vs. Perry.

n Pollock in the 100 butterfly in 1:15.43 (2 second improvement) vs. Perry and Storm Lake

n Emma Ross in the 100 freestyle in 1:10.43 vs. Perry

n Abby Wiita in the 500 freestyle in 6:51.53 vs. Perry and Storm Lake

n 200 freestyle relay team of Stowater, Steinman, Pollock and Fries in 2:03.23 vs. Perry and Storm Lake

n Stowater in the 100 back in 1:23.18 vs. Perry

n 400 freestyle relay team of Ross, Pollock, A. Wiita and Fries in 4:36.65 vs. Perry and Storm Lake

Also, Kylie Weier improved her time in the 500 free by 4 seconds.

"Now is the time for the girls make their hard work pay off and keep improving their times," said Fisher. "The goal in every meet is to improve the times and with that comes more team points and wins."
