For the first home match of the season, Estherville Lincoln Central hosted Class 2A No. 3 Western Christian.

A perennial power, the Wolfpack swept the Midgets 25-12, 25-8, 25-14, but ELC did have some positives from the match.

"I was happy with how we played against Hull," said ELC coach Jean Jensen. "They are a great team and I felt like we never gave up and kept playing hard the whole time."

Some of ELC's best play came in the third set, as the Midgets were tied at 14-14 with the visitors. But Western Christian rattled off the final 11 points to complete the sweep.

Junior Macay Van't Hull led the Wolfpack attack with 17 kills in 24 attack attempts with just two errors. She also had 10 block assists. Western Christian missed just two serves in 70 attempts with seven aces.

For ELC, Lindsey Jensen and Vanessa Woelber each had six kills while Kendall Evans had eight set assists and Brianna Fix had four.

Dania Ponce Diaz led the back-row defense with 11 digs while Woelber had 10. Woelber, Jensen and Ponce Diaz each were 6-of-6 serving.

ELC (6-5 overall) will look for a better outcome, as Storm Lake (2-9) comes to Estherville on Tuesday.
