Cross Country Preview Myers looks to return to State

ELC travels to state-qualifying meet at Orange City today

Cross country teams around Iowa will attend their respective state qualifying meets today.

Estherville Lincoln Central travels to Orange City to the Class 2A meet hosted by Unity Christian. The girls' race starts at 4 p.m. followed by the boys' race.

Junior Taylor Myers will look to earn his third consecutive trip to the state cross country meet, which is held Oct. 27 at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.

The top three teams and the top 10 individuals from each qualifying meet advance to state.

Teams at Orange City include Cherokee, East Sac County, Emmetsburg, ELC, George-Little Rock/Central Lyon, Missouri Valley, OABCIG, Pocahontas Area, Sioux Center, South Central Calhoun, Unity Christian, Woodbury Central/Kingsley-Pierson, West Lyon and Western Christian.

Myers is ranked 22nd in the final Class 2A individual poll. The meet in Orange City features seven other rated runners. They are third-ranked Joe Anderson of GLRCL, fourth-ranked Spencer Moon of South Central Calhoun, ninth-ranked Jordan Hustak of Missouri Valley, 12th-ranked Sam Harrison of Sioux Center, 13th-ranked Joseph Schoonhoven of Unity Christian, 14th-ranked Peter Shippy of Sioux Center, 15th-ranked Sam Harrison of Sioux Center, 19th-ranked Carter VandeVeget of Sioux Center, 20th-ranked Avery Denherder of Sioux Center and 24th-ranked Cruz Boman of Emmetsburg.

The Sioux Center boys are ranked second while George-Little Rock/Central Lyon is ranked fifth and Unity Christian is ranked 13th.

In the girls' race, WC-KP is ranked third and Unity Christian is ranked 13th.

Class 1A

North Union and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire runners to Hawarden to the Class 1A meet hosted by West Sioux. Teams attending are Alta-Aurelia, Bishop Garrigan, Gehlen Catholic, GT/RA, Harris-Lake Park, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, Hinton, Lawton-Bronson, Logan-Magnolia, MCCRU, MVAOCOU, North Union, Ridge View, Sibley-Ocheyedan, Sioux Central, Siouxland Christian, South O'Brien, St. Albert-Council Bluffs, St. Edmond, St. Mary's-Remsen, Trinity Christian, West Bend-Mallard, West Harrison, West Monona, West Sioux, Westwood, Whiting and Woodbine.
