A Mass of Christian Burial for Regena "Jeanne" Hofstader, 97, of Estherville, will be held Saturday, Nov. 10 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Merlin Schrad officiating. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Estherville. Jeanne passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Windsor Manor in Estherville,

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with the Catholic Daughter Rosary and Vigil Service at 4:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Jeanne's family would prefer memorials to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or the Emmet County Food Pantry.

Regena "Jeanne" (Murphy) Hofstader, the daughter of Frank and Maude (Rinus) Murphy was born on September 20, 1921, at St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell, South Dakota.

Jeanne began her education at Notre Dame Elementary School in Mitchell. At the age of seven, she moved with her parents and four older siblings to Broderick in Saskatchewan, Canada, and five years later they moved to Sheldon, Iowa. In 1933, Jeanne moved to Currie, Minnesota, and attended school at Immaculate Heart and graduated in 1939, from Tracy High School in Tracy, Minnesota. Jeanne received her LPN diploma and administrator license from Iowa Lakes Community College in 1971. Jeanne was united in marriage to John Hofstader on August 25, 1940, at Immaculate Heart Church in Currie. Together they raised four children, Bonnie, Gary, Kathleen and Dianna. They lived in Minneapolis for two years, moved back to Currie on a farm for a few years and in 1948, they moved to Estherville. She worked at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville for 12 1/2 years, until they opened their home up as a residential nursing home. In 1968, she and her husband built Rosewood Manor Nursing Home where Jeanne was administrator for 30 years. She sold Rosewood Manor in 2003. Jeanne loved being a mother and grandmother and enjoyed celebrating special occasions with her husband, family and friends. She was a great cook and loved spoiling her grandchildren. Jeanne was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville and a lifetime member of Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of the WaTanYe Club and Past President.

Left to cherish Jeanne's memory are her children, Gary Hofstader of Wallingford, Iowa; Dianna Howard of Carson City, Nevada; son-in-law, Terry Gnewuch of Sioux City, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Tom Geick; daughter, Kathleen Gnewuch; daughter-in-law, Diane Hofstader; infant great granddaughter; parents, Frank and Maude Murphy; three sisters, Estella, Edna, Beatrice; and brother, Francis.
