TOPKEA, Kan. - Memorial service for Sandy Kay Swartz, 63, of Topeka, Kan., was held Nov. 27 at MCC Church in Topeka. Sandy (Sandra Kay) Swartz died Nov. 13, 2018 from complications of living with AIDS for the past 33 years.

Sandra was the firstborn child of Howard and (Lenora) Nell (Jenkinson) Swartz, born Monday, March 28, 1955, in Anchorage, Alaska. Sandra's siblings are Sylvia Swartz Riley of Elbert, Colo., and Ken Swartz of Irmo, S.C.

Howard Swartz, originally from Estherville, was in the Air Force so the family traveled and lived halfway around the world. Sandy graduated from Sumter High School in 1974 and joined the Air Force. She was stationed at Norton AFB in San Bernadino, Calif.

Always eager to learn new skills, Sgt. Swartz was assigned to Headquarters Audio-Visual. Sandy rode motorcycles all over the country.

Sandy was married to Mark Wilson of Ruidoso, N.M., for two years and then to Claire Paul Hurlburt of Sumter, S.C. for five years.

Sandy leaves behind her companion of seven years, David Jon Holl, and best friend for 30 years, Maggie Pinick.
