County 4-H’ers and supporters honored at the Awards Night

Emmet County 4-H held its annual Fall Awards Night on Sunday to recognize members, leaders, and their clubs for their achievements throughout the 2017-2018 year. Volunteers and supporters of the 4-H program in Emmet County were also recognized.

4-H'ers, leaders, parents, and community members kicked off the night by playing carnival games put on by each of the 4-H clubs in Emmet County.

Youth were then recognized for their years of membership in 4-H. There were 113 membership awards presented. There were also 186 project awards presented, in which youth go above and beyond in that project area during the year. Youth must apply for project awards, and the applications are reviewed by a committee.

Club leaders, volunteers, and supporters were also recognized throughout the night. Erica Richard, a leader of the Ellsworth Go-Getters, was recognized for serving as a club leader in Emmet County for 5 years. Doug Hansen, Caryle Hansen and Gary Myers were recognized for leading the Center Champions for the last 10 years. John Pluth was the recipient of the 4-H Alumni Award, which is given to an individual who participated in 4-H as a youth and given back to the program after their years of participation. Steve Schomaker received the Honorary Award, which is given to an individual who never participated in 4-H as a youth but has supported the 4-H program. Northwest Bank was recognized as the Friend of 4-H. This award is given to a business or organization that supports the 4-H program in Emmet County.

The Emmet County 4-H Foundation awards scholarships and senior awards to individual 4-H'ers whom apply. The applications are then reviewed by a committee. Brandy Kinnander was awarded the Danforth "I Dare You" Award & Scholarship and the Emmet County 4-H Foundation Scholarship. Rory McCellan was also awarded the Danforth "I Dare You" Award & Scholarship and the Citizenship Award. Domanique Richardson received the Neppl Scholarship.

The evening came to a close by inducting the 2018-2019 Emmet County Council members, which are 10th-12th grade 4-H'ers who will give leadership to the 4-H program and strengthen the program in Emmet County "To Make the Best Better."
