Peta takes title at E’Hawk tourney

Midgets place sixth out of 13 teams

EMMETSBURG - Jason Peta won the 120-pound bracket and Estherville Lincoln Central placed sixth overall at the Bob Roethler Tournament in Emmetsburg on Saturday.

Peta was the only ELC wrestler to make it to the championship bracket. He started the day by pinning Lake Mills' Trae Butler in 1:55 and then won a 7-0 decision over Eagle Groves Gabe Rolon in the semifinal. IN the final, Peta won 9-3 over Storm Lake's Milton Duarte.

Jalen Tripp took third place in the 138-pound bracket with a 3-1 record on the day. He started with a 15-6 major decision over Emmetsburg's Colton Anderson, but lost 6-5 in the semifinal to Lake Mills' Caiden Jones. Tripp came back with a 4-3 decision over Algona's Luke McKenna and then faced Anderson again in the third-place match, where he won 5-4.

Royce Coakley (160) and Kylan Fitzgerald 220) both placed fourth in the tournament while Garrett Paulson (170) placed fifth. Also fifth was Isaac Hanson at 285 while Nick Egeland placed sixth at that weight. Nick Leonard (145) placed sixth at his weight.

ELC returns to action Thursday at Storm Lake with MOC-Floyd Valley and Sibley-Ocheyedan also present.
