LEMARS - Over the years, the Estherville Lincoln Central boys haven't had success at LeMars.

Tuesday's game was no different, as the Bulldogs defeated ELC 62-43.

The Midgets weren't helped by a slow start, as LeMars jumped out to a 20-7 lead in the first quarter. ELC played better the second quarter, but trailed 33-19 in the second quarter. ELC cut the deficit to 10 a couple times in the third quarter, but trailed 42-31 to start the final period.

"We can't dig a hole like that against a team that good," said ELC coach Nick Gruhlke.

Gruhlke noted LeMars does some of the little things, coming off screens hard and making quick cuts.

"We need to do that," he said. "Hopefully we're on the right track to build a program like LeMars."

Alec Heifner was the only player to reach double digits with 12 points while Will Larson chipped in seven. Seth Vaske had a team-high six rebounds. After making just 2-of-5 free throws in the first half, ELC finished 8-of-12 for the game.

ELC (1-5 overall, 0-3 in the Lakes Conference) will host Class 2A No. 3 Western Christian on Friday.
