MILFORD - Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire wrestlers wrapped up the 2018 portion of their schedule by winning the Okoboji Invitational on Thursday.

The event, which was postponed by inclement weather from Dec. 1, saw the Titans win four weight brackets-Cade Stearns (113), Lucas Hoffman (152), Spencer Roth (160) and Treyton Cacek (170).

Only five teams made the rescheduled event with GT/RA winning with 189 points followed by Okoboji with 154, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock with 152, Sioux Central with 106 and Sibley-Ocheyedan with 92.

Stearns earned four pints in his matches, the fastest coming in 40 seconds against CLGLR's Jacob Pytleski.

Hoffman recorded three pins and a technical fall in his matches, as he improved to 25-1 on the season.

Roth went 4-0 on the evening, starting with a 7-6 decision over Sibley-Ocheyedan's Dahson DeJong before pinning his final three opponents. He improved to 22-0 on the season.

Cacek finished with four pins also, with all coming in the first period. He improves to 25-0 on the season.

GT/RA had four wrestlers place second. Hunter Naig (132) went 3-1, as did Brett Triggs (138). Nole Bochmann (220) was 2-1 and Alex Long (285) was 0-1 with only one other wrestler in the heavyweight bracket.

Blake Schany (145) and Blake Miller (195) both went 2-2 to place third. Monte Matthews (120) and Tanner Murray (182) both placed fourth.

GT/RA hosts its tournament at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 5.

NU wins first dual of season

North Union wrestlers earned their first dual of the season at a quad hosted by Nashua-Plainfield on Thursday.

The Warriors went 1-2 on the night with their victory coming against Rockford, 36-4. North Union lost 54-30 to Forest City and 60-21 to Nashua-Plainfield.

Against Rockford, both teams had a handful of wrestlers and met at just two weights. Jake Anderson (285) pinned Rockford's Jacob Titus in 31 seconds. At 220, Angel Martinez lost a 10-2 major decision. The Warriors received forfeits at five other weights with double forfeits on seven weights.

North Union and Forest City met at five weights with Isaac Engeman (195), Angel Martinez (220) and Jacob Bollinger (152) each winning by fall.

North Union and Nashua-Plainfield met at seven weights. Engeman (195) won a 7-5 decision while Martinez (220), Anderson (285) and Trevor Kruse (160) all won by fall.

North Union returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 3 at home in Swea City against Eagle Grove, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura and West Hancock. The Warriors travel to the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 5.
