Estherville Ambulance institutes fees

December 26, 2018
Estherville News

As of January 1, 2019 the Estherville Ambulance Service will be charging $75 for non-transport calls including: lift assists and calls when a party decides not to be transported after they or someone else has called 911.

In 2018, the Estherville Ambulance Service responded to an over-whelming amount of non-transport calls. Every 911 call when an ambulance is dispatched requires a driver and at least one EMT. When responding to non-transport calls, this takes the primary 911 ambulance crew out-of-service and at times additional 911 calls for emergent needs occur at the same time requiring a second ambulance and crew to respond which could delay emergent needs. It is not out of the ordinary for medical Insurance policies, including Medicare, to deny payment of non-transport calls.

The Estherville Ambulance Service apologizes for any inconveniences in this matter. This charge is due to low numbers of Ambulance volunteers and increasing costs of maintaining our ambulances and education for the members of the Estherville Ambulance Service.
