Boys basketball

MNW 58, GTRA 49

MANSON - Tom Geelan scored 20 points and Tyson Kruse had 19, but the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire duo didn't have much other help in a 58-49 loss to Manson-Northwest Webster on Friday.

GT/RA took a 14-12 lead after one quarter, but the game was tied at 23-23 at halftime. The Cougars took a 40-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter and held on for the win.

Kruse had 10 rebounds to complete a double-double. Chris Conlon and Kadin Norris each had four points and three assists for the Titans. Dalton Young had two points.

GT/RA (4-5 overall) hosts Sioux Central on Monday and North Union on Tuesday.

GHV 55, North Union 26

ARMSTRONG - Garner-Hayfield/Ventura outscored host North Union 24-3 in the third quarter on the way to a 55-26 win over the Warriors on Friday.

GHV led just 11-9 after one quarter and 18-15 at halftime, before the third-quarter explosion.

Elliott Hagebock led North Union with 10 points and eight rebounds while Braden Pierce had seven points, Dylan Delperdang had four, Brendan Anderson had three and Noah Morphew had two.

North Union (1-8 overall) is at Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Tuesday.

Girls basketball

North Union 53, GHV 37

ARMSTRONG - A strong first quarter and third quarter was what North Union needed to defeat visiting Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 53-37 on Friday.

The Warriors jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first quarter with the Cardinals cutting the deficit to 21-18 at halftime. North Union won the third quarter 19-8 to lead 40-26 heading into the final frame.

North Union's Chloe Lofstrom scored her average with 23 points to go along with 14 rebounds and two blocked shots. Maddie Rolling tossed in 14 points while going 5-of-6 from the field. Brooklyn Prochniak and Rory McClellan each finished with five points while Vanessa Von Bank had four and Hope Steinberger had two. McClellan had 11 rebounds while Steinberger had six steals and five assists.

North Union (8-2 overall) goes on the road to play Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Tuesday.

MNW 54, GTRA?47

MANSON - A poor start proved too much for Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire to overcome in a 54-47 loss to Manson-Northwest Webster on Friday.

The host Cougars jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first stanza. The Titans battled back to cut the deficit to 26-19 at halftime and 39-33 after three quarters, but the hosts held on for the win.

Madison Hough led GTRA with 19 points, four assists and two steals while Toni Alesch had 15 points and three steals. Kate Sorenson had five points and Kylea Fehr, Lauren Josephson, Emma Heinrichs and Chloe Bakken each had two.

GT/RA (6-5 overall) hosts Sioux Central on Monday and North Union on Tuesday.
