SPIRIT LAKE, HULL - The Estherville Lincoln Central girls have struggled to come up with wins the past few games and the Midgets ended last week with losses to Spirit Lake and Western Christian.

On Thursday, ELC couldn't penetrate Spirit Lake's 2-3 zone defense in falling 41-25 to the Indians.

Spirit Lake's top two players in the defense, starters Karli Olsen and Cameron Quance, hounded ELC's guards making it difficult to get in the interior.

If ELC did happen to get past those two, they had to face a duo over 6 feet in juniors Emma Loveall and Jordyn Hamm.

While ELC's defense kept the game close early on the Midgets couldn't score, trailing 8-3 after one quarter and 19-7 at halftime. Spirit lake stretched its led to 32-15 to start the fourth quarter.

Josie Condon led ELC with eight points while Lindsey Jensen and Jaydan Nitchals each had four points, Kaitlyn Tendal had three and Kendall Evans, Brianne Vermeys, Gabby Paul and Laura Humble each had two points.

On Friday, Western Christian avenged an early season loss to ELC, winning 76-54 over the Midgets.

The Wolfpack raced out to a 28-8 first-quarter lead and never looked back. ELC won the second quarter, but trail 46-28 at the break and then 63-42 to start the final period.

Evans led ELC with 12 points while Amara Heinrichs had 10, Tendal had seven, Nitchals had six, Jadynn Moore had five, Paul had four, Condon had three, Jensen, Adrienne Rosjford and Maggie White each had two and Vermeys had one.

ELC (9-10 overall, 4-8 in the Lakes Conference) is at Spencer this Friday.
