MANSON For the second straight time in the program's history, North Union has a district qualifier.

Junior Jake Anderson won the heavyweight bracket this past Saturday to earn a Class 1A Sectional Title and advance to this Saturday's district meet at Lake Mills. Anderson was a district qualifier as a freshman two years ago.

Anderson (16-14) pinned his way to the title, defeating Emmetsburg's Calvin Hart in 3:08 and Eagle Grove's Peyton Larsen in 1:21. Anderson will attempt to be North Union's first state qualifier.

Also for the Warriors, senior Angel Martinez (220) placed third. He started the day with a pin over Manson-Northwest Webster's Trevor Condon in 17 seconds, but lost to Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire's Cade Steelman by fall in the semifinal. Martinez came back with a pin over Emmetsburg's Jordan Anderson in 1:51 in the third-place match, but the Warrior wrestler did not receive a wrestleback.

Sophomore Trevor Kruse placed fourth at 160 pounds. Kruse (33-13) won a 5-3 decision over MNW's Grant Calmer in the quartertinal, but lost 6-4 to GT/RA's Spencer Roth in the semifinal. Kruse ended the season with a loss by fall to West Bend-Mallard's Connor Fehr in the third-place match.

Sophomore Logan Dickherber (182) went 0-2 on the day and did not place.

District wrestling starts at noon at Lake Mills this Saturday for Anderson.
