MANSON Seven Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire wrestlers earned the right to wrestle at this Saturday's Class 2A District Meet in Lake Mills following sectional action in Manson this past Saturday.

While that's one less district qualifier than last year's eight, the Titans will consider 2018-19 to be more successful if more than two wrestlers earn a state berth this week.

GT/RA placed second overall behind Emmetsburg at the sectional and will compete in regional dual competition at Emmetsburg on Tuesday. The Titans will face Central Springs while Emmetsburg will take on ACGC, with the winners meeting in the regional final.

On Saturday, GT/RA finished with two sectional champions in returning state qualifier Carter Murray (182) and Treyton Cacek (170), who hasn't lost this season.

Murray (33-3) pinned his way to the sectional title, defeating St. Edmond's Nathan Russell in 39 seconds, South Hamilton's Nathan Wilson in 1 minutes, and, in the final, Emmetsburg's Nick Schany in 2:51.

Cacek (28-0) had a bye in the quarterfinal and also pinned his way to the sectional title. He defeated Eagle Grove's Victor Frias in 1:24 and Emmetsburg's Matthew Wirtz in 1:46.

Five other Titans placed second to advance to district competition.

At 113 pounds, Cade Stearns (34-8) won by fall in the semifinal in 4:56 over Josh Graham of Eagle Grove, but then lost by fall in 4:32 to Emmetsburg's Sean Brennan in the final. Stearns then had a wrestleback and edged Manson-Northwest Webster's Nathan Thoma 6-5 to continue his season.

At 138 pounds, Brett Triggs (26-16), won by fall in the quarterfinal in 5:44 over MNW's Anthony Hiracheta, but then lost by fall to Emmetsburg's Colton Andersen in 3:00. Triggs did not have a wrestleback.

At 152 pounds, Lucas Hoffman (27-5) won 9-7 over MNW's Chris Krueger in the semifinal, but lost 4-1 to Emmetsburg's Bret Hoyman in the final. Hoffman then had to wrestle Lane Swenson of South Hamilton in the second-place match and came up with a 6-4 decision.

At 160, Spencer Roth (34-3) won his semifinal 6-4 over North Union's Trevor Kruse, but lost 4-2 to Emmetsburg's Mason Griffin in the final. Roth then won his wrestleback by fall in 46 seconds over West Bend-Mallard's Connor Fehr.

At 220, Cade Steelman (22-4) won by fall in 46 seconds over North Union's Angel Martinez in the semifinal, but lost 8-2 to Eagle Grove's Joel Mendoza in the final. Steelman did not have a wrestleback.

Four more Titans came up short, placing third on the day.

At 120, Monte Matthews won his semifinal by fall in 45 seconds, but lost the final by fall and the second-place match by fall to finish with a 23-20 record.

At 132, Hunter Naig (25-17) won his quarterfinal match by fall, but then lost by fall in the semifinal. He came back with a pin in the third-place match, but did not receive a wrestleback.

At 145, Connor Jensen (14-22) lost by technical fall in the semifinal, but won the third-place match by fall. He also did not receive a wrestleback.

At 195, Blake Miller won a 5-2 decision over MNW's Carson Peterson in the semifinal, but lost by fall in 4:30 to Emmetsburg's Jon Lace II. Miller than had a wrestleback against South Hamilton's Trevor Thompson and lost a 5-3 decision. He has an 18-21 record.

Also for GT/RA, Carson Torreson (106) and Justin Buettner (126) both placed fourth, and Nathan Campbell (285) placed fifth.

District wrestling begins at noon this Saturday at Lake Mills.
