Inmate recaptured after fleeing jail

An inmate is back in jail after escaping from the Emmet County Jail Friday evening.

According to the Emmet County Sheriff's Department, Divine Rome Watkins physically assaulted the county jailer on duty around 7:20 p.m. and was able to escape out of a jail door that the jailer had just opened. Watkins then ran on foot out of the law enforcement center officers' door. Off duty Estherville police officers and county deputies were called in.

Watkins was located and apprehended at 7:58 p.m. by the Estherville Police Department's dog handler and Max.

Watkins now faces additional charges of escape from custody (Class D

Felony) and assault on persons in certain occupations (an aggravated misdemeanor).

Watkins was originally arrested on Monday on a charge of first degree burglary.
