David L. Kaltved

Funeral services for David L. Kaltved, 76, of Estherville, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville with the Rev. Dr. Dave Ullom, officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville with military rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91, both of Estherville. He passed away surrounded by his family on March 1, 2019 at Good Samaritan Home in Estherville.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

David LeRoy Kaltved, son of Arthur and LaVonne "Bonnie" (Willhour) Kaltved, was born in Estherville, Iowa on March 28, 1942.

Dave was raised in Estherville and graduated from Estherville High School in 1960. He participated in football, wrestling and track, where he was all Lakes Conference his junior and senior years. Dave was a member of the first every Estherville High School Wrestling Team in 1958. He then attended Estherville Junior College for one year, where he participated in football. Dave joined the United States Air Force in March of 1961 and honorably served his country being discharged in July of 1964. David then returned to his hometown.

Dave was employed with Emmet County as a bridge and road inspector for 40 years, he retired in 2010. On April 11, 1989, he was united in marriage to Elaine Bush in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Estherville. There he was on the Session Board and was a Deacon. He also was an active member of the Estherville Booster Club and Morning Kiwanis. Dave enjoyed exploring the history of Emmet County and was on the Historical Society Board, volunteering many hours at the museum. In his younger years was a member of the Lakes Area Running Club and Old Timer's Wrestling Club. He also enjoyed camping, dancing, and flower gardening. He was an active member in the 4-H community in Emmet County as well.

Dave enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their ball games and photographing the events.

Dave is survived by his wife Elaine of Estherville; his children: Jeff (Susan) Kaltved of Carroll, IA, Kristy (Joel) Vos of Spirit Lake, and Wade Kaltved of Spirit Lake; his grandchildren Justin and Hannah Kaltved and Jacob and Mackenzie Vos; his step-children Daryl (Meri) Meyer, Darla Moreno, and MaryAnn (Doug) Walter; six step-grandchildren, and four step- great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Robert (Shirley) Kaltved of Sioux Falls, S.D., Ron (Marjean) Kaltved of Estherville, James (Kathleen) Kaltved of Mesa, Ariz., and Kenneth (Donna) Kaltved of Estherville.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Art and Bonnie; and his brother, Roger Kaltved.
