She graduated from Estherville High School in 1947.

Betty worked at N.W. Bell Telephone in Estherville as an operator and later for Mountain States Telephone in Boise, Idaho, as a supervisor.

Betty was unfortunate to lose both her parents at a young age, both before her senior year in high school. As a graduation gift from her brother Wilbur, she received a bus ticket, for a vacation in Boise, Idaho, where he and his family were located at the time. Betty liked it so much, decided it was time for a little change in her life, so she moved back out there, and started working for the phone company there in Boise. It was there, that she became friends with a co-worker, whom managed to introduce her to a friend, Dale Moore, and the story goes from there.

Dale soon moved to Falls City, Neb., area to farm with a brother, realizing soon that someone he left behind in Boise, was soon to become his partner and wife for several years to come. On Dec. 31, 1949, Dale and Betty were married in Boise, moving to Falls City area to farm, where son Robert was born. They remained there until 1952, when they moved back to Boise with their young son. It was in rural Boise that they continued to farm and later add to their family Daniel and Peggy, until 1963 when they moved to Estherville, Betty's home town, to start a new life for the family.

Betty was a homemaker and a member of Estherville Lutheran Church where she was active in circles and ELCW, for many years.

She enjoyed doing all varieties of crafts, working crossword and word search puzzles, and especially following the ISU CYCLONES whether it was football or basketball, which was the college both Bob and Dan were graduates of. Betty was also known for her fabulous dinners she would spend hours on for her family as they were growing up and moving on, as well as her many extended relatives when they would come visit. Betty so loved spending time with her children, later grandchildren and then great-grandchildren. Betty especially loved spending lots of hours decorating for all holidays, especially Christmas!

Survived by her son - Dan (friend Sigi) of San Antonio, TX; daughter - Peggy (Steve) Danielson, Estherville; daughter-in-law - Sandy Moore of Waukee, IA; grandchildren - Jason (Tasha) Danielson of Adel, IA, James (friend Megan) Moore of Des Moines, Jessica (Justin) Nail of Williamsburg, IA, and Courtney Moore, Spring Branch, TX; great-grand Children - Breanna, Kara, Mattie, & Logan; sister-in-law Vivian Achenbach, Prairie du Chien, WI; many very special Handeland cousins and very special nieces and nephews, whom all considered Betty to be their ROCK!
