A Celebration of Life service for Dean R. Lyon, 91, of Estherville, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Cole McCormick officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Lake Fremont Cemetery, Dunnell, Minn., with military rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91. He died on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at his home in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2019, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Dean Richard Lyon, the son of Axel and Mabelle (Bloomquist) Lyon, was born May 14, 1927, in Dunnell, Minn.

He received his education and graduated from Sherburn High School in Sherburn, Minn. Following high school, Dean served in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Dean returned to the area.

On June 12, 1949, he was united in marriage to Elda June Wallerstedt in Dunnell. Dean worked at Keihl's Bakery in Fairmont, Minn., and then went into partnership with Ordean Waldee at Austin Bakery in Austin, Minn. Their family moved to Estherville and Dean purchased Andy's Bakery in 1958 and renamed it Lyon's Pastry Shop and operated the business until 1981. He then managed Harold's Red Owl Bakery until 1991 and worked at Hy Vee Bakery in Spirit Lake until 2011. He retired at the age of 83.

For hobbies, Dean enjoyed travel, fishing trips, big band music, spending time at the cabin on Spirit Lake and most important was spending time with his family. Elda died in 2012. They were married for 63 years.

Dean was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville where he taught Sunday school in the 1960s and served on the church council.

Left to cherish Dean's memory are his children, Lili (Bob) Jensen of Estherville; Lori (Ron) Swanson of Marion, Iowa; Lesa (Mark) Nauss of Estherville; Lary (Brenda) Lyon of Burnsville, Minn.; grandchildren, Erik (Kim) Jensen; Jordan (Ken) Colston; Erin (Chad) Henderson; Matt (Nikki) Wycoff; Joey Swanson; Chris Nauss and Amy Renaud; April (Ryan) Wubbens; Kallie and Katie Lyon; great grandchildren, Ronan and Crosby Jensen; Kaylin Colston; Carter and Camden Henderson; Sadie, Millie, and Kirby Wycoff; Seth Gelo; Wrenly Wubbens; sister, Arlene Brolsma of Fairmont ; sister-in-law, Marilyn Wallerstedt of Dunnell, and many nieces and nephews.

He has been preceded in death by his wife; parents; and siblings, Virginia Lyon, Axel "Junior" Lyon, Betty June Lyon, and Robert Lyon.
