Funeral services for Irwin "Irv" Bandow, 92, of Estherville, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Thomas Marth officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville, with military rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91, both of Estherville. He passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Pearl Valley Care Center in Estherville.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at theHenry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Irwin L. Bandow, the son of Louie and Mildred (Miller) Bandow, was born on Feb. 26, 1927, in Denison, Iowa.

In 1927, Irv was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, Iowa. In 1941, was confirmed at the church also. He received his education in Manilla where he graduated early from high school to join the United States Navy during World War II. He got to see almost the entire world before his enlistment was up, and that was the last time he went anywhere. He returned to the area following his honorable discharge.

On Feb. 16, 1949, Irwin was united in marriage to Maxine Winans; even though as it said in his yearbook, "all the girls like Irvy"; at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. Eventually the couple made their home in Estherville, where they raised their family. Irv was a great son, who always made sure that his parents always had everything they needed. He was a great Father who never gave up on his kids and whose home was always open to relatives and friends who needed a place to stay.

Irv became a master bricklayer for Fagre Construction in Estherville and was soon running the job from start to finish. He could build anything with a blueprint. He was respected by the people that worked for him and the people he worked for. Later in life he helped his son in construction and brick laying. He received a special award from Spirit Lake Schools for all the fine work he did there. Maxine died October 1, 1998. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville and VFW Post 3388.

Left to cherish Irwin's memory are his children, Steve (Mary) Bandow of Estherville, Vicki (Arnie) Zerke of Estherville, Jodi (Bob) Feser of Cherokee, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Berdine Petersen of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Georgine Sievertsen of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Irwin in death were his parents; wife; son, Jay; two grandchildren, Angel and Amanda; one great-great-granddaughter, Olympia; and brothers, Melvin and Edwin, and sister Virgine Ohl.
