Tough losses

ELC drops games to Garrigan, WC

After evening their record at 9-9 earlier in the week, Estherville Lincoln Central ended the week with a pair of tough losses. The Midgets were unable to hang on to an 8-6 lead against Bishop Garrigan on Thursday, as the Golden Bears rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth and hung on for the 10-8 victory.

On Friday, the Midgets suffered a 3-2, eight-inning home loss to Lakes Conference foe Western Christian.

In Thursday's game, ELC jumped out to an early lead with six runs in the top of the first inning. Bishop Garrigan didn't' catch the midgets until their big sixth inning.

Maggie White took the loss, giving up 10 runs (eight earned) on 15 hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

ELC finished with 11 hits, which included s solo home runs by Jadynn Moore and Kylie Quastad, who each finished 1-3.

Kendall Evans was 2-4 with two RBIs, Madison Valen was 2-3 with two RBIs and Kendyl Ruschy was 2-4. Also, Lena McCoy, Lindsey Jensen, and White each had a hit.

In Friday's contest, Western Christian scored its first two runs in the first inning. ELC answered when Jadynn Moore hit a high pop-up in shallow left field that no Wolfpack player could get to in time. A throw to second base was off the mark and went into right field, allowing Moore to come on the way home and cut the lead in half.

ELC tied the game in the third inning and the game remained scoreless until Western Christian's go-ahead run in the top of the eighth.

Maggie White took the loss on the mound and had 10 strikeouts.

ELC (9-11 overall) is on the road at Spencer today and then hosts North Union on Thursday.
