The Emmet County Fair is sponsoring three new contests for 2019. The Barn Door Decorating contest is open to ages 12 and over. Junior division is ages 12 to 18 and senior division is ages 19 and up. Barn doors are available at the fairgrounds Tuesday evenings after 5 p.m. and the deadline to turn them in to the fair office for judging is Wednesday, July 24 at 3 p.m. Twenty barn doors are available and entries are open until the doors are claimed. The theme is "County Fair," and decorations should be good, clean, wholesome in nature with no vulgar or suggestive decorations and no commercial, advertising or political statements.

The second contest is decorating a hay bale, open to anyone in Emmet County that would like to get a team together. The team can include anyone of any age from a family, 4-H club, FFA chapter, church group or others. Find an open hay bale on the fair grounds, decorate it and leave it in that spot. Hay bales will be available at the fairgrounds Saturday, July 20 and the deadline is again Wednesday, July 24 at 3 p.m. for judging.

Hay bales are available to six teams. Register at www.theemmetcountyfair.com. The same rules apply regarding wholesomeness of artistic theme and restriction against commercial or political material. Use latex paint, not oil based or toxic materials. Decoration should be wind and weather proof.
