NU drops two to start week

BANCROFT - North Union couldn't come up with the key hits in a 4-1 loss to Northwood-Kensett on Monday.

The Warriors struck first with a run in the first inning, but the visitors scored three in the third and added an insurance run in the fourth.

Braden Pierce pitched seven innings, giving up four earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

North Union finished with six hits, with Elliott Hagebock going 1-2 with an RBI while Brendan Anderson, Pierce, Jay Heinen, Avery Krantz and Kegan Boland each had a hit.

North Union (5-15 overall) hosted Manson-Northwest Webster on Wednesday. The Warriors host West Bend-Mallard on Monday with the game starting at 6 p.m.

POCAHONTAS - The North Union Baseball Team struggled in an 11-1, five-inning non-conference loss to Pocahontas Area on Monday.

The Indians scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. North Union got just one run back in the top of the second, but the hosts answered with two in the bottom of the inning. Pocahontas scored another run in the fourth and cut the game short with four runs in the fifth inning.

Robert Ortman took the loss on the mound, giving up 11 earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and10 walks. Parker Eichenberger gave up one hit and a walk.

The Warriors had three hits at the plate with Elliott Hagebock went 2-3 and Braden Pierce was 1-3.
