Kathryn attended country schools and graduated from Swea City High School. She then attended Mankato State University to become a teacher. She was united in marriage to Orville Budach on Nov. 25, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winnebago, MN. She taught fifth grade in the Winnebago Public Schools. In 1966, she and Orville moved the family to Estherville where she took a break from teaching to raise their family until all their children were of school age. She then continued to teach as a Reading Recovery and Reading Intervention Specialist at Demoney Elementary School until her retirement from Estherville Lincoln Central Schools in 2002. After retiring from teaching, she worked part-time for Upper Des Moines Opportunity.

Kathryn was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church as well as Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening, canning, reading, quilting, and participated as a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Garden Club, and book club.

More than anything, she loved her family unconditionally, was always a source of support and encouragement, enjoyed being able to cook for family gatherings, and attend the activities of her grandchildren. She was also an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
