Did you know Estherville Lincoln Central has a girls' swim program?

For those who haven't kept up with sports, the Midgets have had participants in girls swimming since 1998.

The reason many might not know about the program, is that it's been shared program with Algona since about 1999.

This year, ELC has four members in the shared program-juniors Kaitlyn Pollock and Emma Ross, and freshmen Cathryn Houge and Quimby Ross.

Next Tuesday, Aug. 27, anyone interested in the swim team won't have to leave town to watch the swimmers, as they host a meet against Storm Lake at the Regional Wellness Center in Estherville.

The meet starts at 5:30 p.m.

Fans will see more than just the ELC swimmers though.

The girls swim program has been shared with Algona since it began about 20 years ago. Algona took over as the host school in the mid-2000s. ELC has had at least one swimmer in the program ever since.

ELC swimmers are able to practice at the Regional Wellness Center a couple nights a week. Joint practices with all swimmers are held in Emmetsburg.

ELC began the girls' swim program in the fall of 1998 and Algona joined the following year with ELC as the host school. Algona took over as the host duties about the same time Fisher took on coaching duties.

Emmetsburg and Bishop Garrigan have both sent participants to the program over the years.

This year, Algona provides the most members of the team with 18. Emmetsburg also shares in the program and has one participant this season.

Jim Fisher begins his 17th season as the team's coach.
