Estherville Lincoln Central presents ‘Donovan’s Daughters’ Nov. 1-2

October 30, 2019
Amy H. Peterson - Staff Writer (apeterson@esthervillenews.net) , Estherville News

"Donovan's Daughters" by Shirley McNichols is an adaptation of Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew" set in 1895 Seattle, a time when there were 10 men for every woman in the territory. Shamus Donovan (Justin Christensen), an Irish fisherman, and his wife, Abby (Lena McCoy) have five daughters to marry off in their new homeland. The younger daughters (Allison Young, Shiloh Kirchner, Grace Johnson, Jaden Templin) attract quality suitors (Taylor Myers, Braxton Shryock, Brendan Finley, and Cole Danner) but unfortunately, tradition says the eldest must marry first. Wild woman Katherine (Emma Ross) isn't having it. The men give federal marshal Danny O'Brien (Winter Williams) advice straight from "The Taming of the Shrew" on how to tame the wild Katherine. Villain Darien Specter (Bryan Peterson) and his sister, Agatha (Adrienne Rosfjord) attempt a kidnap scheme to stay in business with their fine young ladies (Maggie Domek, Kaylyn Domek, Keisha Smith, Angie Palmer, Kai Li Dong and Kaitlyn Pollock) . Throw in two feuding Native tribes and some bumbling lumberjacks, and a wild west adventure ensues. The play is directed by Ms. Desiree Welty with student directors Maggie Domek and Taylor Myers. The doors to the auditorium for seating will open at 6:30pm with the performance starting at 7 p.m. Please dress warmly as the auditorium tends to be cool. Admision is $5. The following passes are also accepted: Patrons of Fine Arts, ELC Student Activity Ticket, Senior Citizen Pass, ELC Worker Pass.
