Lorraine Koons

She received her education at Swea City High School. Following high school, she worked for the school system as a secretary for a few years. On June 25, 1952, she was united in marriage to Donald Koons. The couple made their home in Estherville. Lorraine cooked for the residents at Good Samaritan Society for 18 years. Together Lorraine and Don enjoyed square dancing. She also enjoyed baking, reading, and gardening. But, most important to Lorraine was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville, where she belonged to the Catholic Daughters. Lorraine was a quiet fun-loving person with a very gentle spirit. She loved lending a listening ear to any troubled soul.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Colleen Lathrop of Baltic, S.D., Darlene Lauritsen (Tom) of Estherville, Tom (Sue) Koons of Estherville, Tim Koons of Wisconsin, David (Patricia) Koons of Estherville, Diane (Jim) Bauerly of Sioux City, Iowa, Jeff (Kim) Koons of LeMars, Iowa, Theresa (Dave) Moritz of Norwalk, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Maurice and Patricia Carr.

Lorraine has been preceded in death by her parents; her husband Don; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Laila and Linus Vaske, Irene and Keith Poshusta, and Kathryn and Orville Budach.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
