Laker women roll past Minnesota West

Wendland scores 24; Smith records double-double

The Iowa Lakes women led from start to finish in a 95-65 win over Minnesota West on Saturday.

The Lakers scored at least 20 points in each quarter, taking a 24-14 lead after one quarter, 50-30 by half-time and 75-48 after three quarters.

Breanna Wendland led the Lakers with 24 points while Shareece Smith had 19 and Beth Rehse had 17.

"I thought our kids responded really well today," said Iowa Lakes coach Ashley Martin. "That is the best I have seen our offense look. The ball was moving side to side and we really shared it. We got some good defensive stops today and were able to get out in transition and convert."

Smith also had 10 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals while Wendland had six assists. Tyler Pacheco had nine points, Safiyer Coleman had eight, Tejah Hayden had seven, Brianna O'Donnell had six, Jordan Weasel Head had three and Shanice Vaughn had two.

Iowa Lakes (6-2 overall) hosts the Northwestern Junior Varsity at 5:30 p.m., today, Nov. 25.

On Wednesday, after watching an 11-point half-time lead disappear in the third quarter, the Iowa Lakes women stepped up in the final period to pull out a 63-58 win over the Gustavus Adolphus Junior Varsity.

Shareece Smith led the Lakers with 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Breanna Wendland added 11 points and Tejah Hayden added nine points.

"Some of our kids really stepped up tonight; it was really good to see. It was great to get Imani (Hollie Jones) back. She will give us some added depth," said Iowa Lakes Coach Ashley Martin.
