Laker women have no trouble with Panthers

Wendland leads with 17 points

IOWA FALLS - The Iowa Lakes women won each quarter in dominating Ellsworth 66-39 in the regular season finale on Saturday.

Iowa Lakes led just 11-8 after one quarter, but out-scored the hosts 21-5 in the second to lead 32-13 at the break. The Lakers led 47-23 after three quarters.

Breanna Wendland led the Lakers with 17 points and Shareece Smith finished with 10 points and seven assists.

"Was proud of our effort today. Excited to see what our team can do in post season play," said Iowa Lakes Coach Ashley Martin.

The Lakers finish the regular season 18-10 and 9-7 in conference play. The Lakers tied for third place in the conference but lose the tiebreaker and will earn the No. 5 seed and travel to Creston on Wednesday, March 4 to take on Southwestern Community College at 5:30 p.m.

Iowa Lakes and Southwestern split the regular season contests with each inning on their home floor. The Lakers won 57-49 on Jan. 8 in Estherville. Southwestern won 73-65 on Feb. 12.

Wendland leads the Lakers, averaging 14.4 points per game this season while Smith averages 12.5 and Safiyer Coleman averages 9.7. Simone Jordan leads Southwestern, averaging 14.6 points per game while Brielle Baker averages 13.1 points.
