2020 Estherville Sweet Corn Days canceled

June 29, 2020
Estherville News

After weeks of deliberation and discussion, the Estherville Sweet Corn Days Committee announced Wednesday that it has decided to cancel the Sweet Corn Days for 2020.

"With guidance from our (Emmet County) Public Health officials, we feel we cannot responsibly hold this event this year," the committee said in a statement. "The health and safety of our community is our number one priority. The number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise in Emmet County and the surrounding areas, and we do not want to be a contributing factor to a spike here. We do not take this decision lightly and we are incredibly sad to be canceling. We love hosting Sweet Corn Days and spreading joy and fun throughout Estherville, but we must make the responsible decision at this time. We will come back in 2021 with a bigger and better than ever Sweet Corn Days.

Chamber director Lexie Ruter said, "We really do have sadness about this. We didn't want to cancel Sweet Corn Days, but we have to do what's best for the health of the community."

The committee expressed its gratitude.

"Thank you to all of our members for your continual support and sponsorship of this event. 2020 has been an unprecedented year for all of us; we appreciate your understanding."
