Courthouse opens this week

June 29, 2020
Estherville News

The Emmet County Courthouse reopened Wednesday morning with the following conditions:

Courthouse traffic enters at the south doors unless otherwise arranged with the department receiving the patron. The east and west doors remain locked. The Law Enforcement Center disability entrance vestibule also will remain locked, but dispatch will monitor for those needing to get in to the courthouse from that direction.

All who enter by the south doors must have their temperature taken by the Thermascan. Step into the circle on the floor to the right, remove any and all eyewear and watch for the temperature on the computer screen. If the temperature is above 100.4, entrance will be denied. There is also a hand sanitizing station at the south entrance.

Everyone entering the courthouse must wear a mask, including those attending board meetings and in-person court hearings.

Six feet of social distancing will be maintained at all times in the courthouse. If the circles or x's to indicate where a patron would stand are all occupied, patrons will be asked to wait outside until available space opens.

Driver's license and passport issuance remain by appointment only until further notice.

Clerk of Court is by appointment only until July 10, 2020. Beginning July 13, 2020, the clerk will open, unless further instruction comes down from the Iowa Supreme Court.

The public is encouraged to continue doing business by phone when possible and to utilize the drop box and online for payments.
