Guard unit plans send-off this August

Soldiers and immediate families invited; ceremony will be streamed online for public

Alpha Battery 1-194th FA reported recently it will be holding a sendoff ceremony at Estherville Lincoln Central High School's football field at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 1t.

This ceremony is limited to soldiers and immediate families of deploying soldiers. The event will be streamed on Alpha Battery's Facebook page. Families are encouraged to wear masks. Families will socially distance and only have contact with their soldier.

In the event of inclement weather or more restrictive COVID-19 precautions this ceremony will take place in the armory and will be limited to deploying soldiers. The event will be streamed on the Battery's Facebook page in either event.

There will be more information to come in regards to a bus escort out of Estherville after the send off ceremony is complete that families, and community are welcome to attend.

About 330 soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 194th Field Artillery, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, will deploy in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. Central Command is made up of 20 nations in the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia, including Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries.

These deployments are anticipated to last about one year.
