SERGEANT BLUFF - Estherville Lincoln Central had all it could handle in facing off against second-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton in a Class 3A District Quarterfinal on Friday.

The Warriors (16-2) and their starter Daniel Wright allowed just five ELC baserunners all night and none got past second base, in an 8-0 shutout.

ELC didn't have a baserunner until the third inning when Blake Ingvall hit a one-out single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tristan Howard. A groundout ended the inning.

In the fourth, Ryan Schiltz hit a one-out single, but later was picked off second base.

In the fifth inning, Will Larson drew a leadoff walk, but was doubled up when Griffin Hoyer lined out to the shortstop. Daryl Jensen hit a two-out single in the sixth inning and Larson also had a two-out single, in the seventh.

Larson started well on the mound, retiring the first eight batters before a two-out triple in the third inning. A walk, an RBI single, a balk, and a passed ball allowed SBL to score three runs in the inning.

The Warriors added a run in the fourth after an ELC error and then a two-out single.

A walk, a wild pitch and another single in the fifth put the Warriors up 4-0. SBL then scored four in the sixth inning to complete the scoring.

Larson struck out eight, walked three and gave up four hits in four innings of work. Ryan Schiltz pitched the final two innings, giving up three runs on two hits with one strikeout and three walks.

For ELC, Jesen, Schiltz, Larson and Ingvall each had a hit.

The Midgets say farewell to its two seniors-Izaak Sander and Keegan Brown-as they finish the year 7-11 overall.
