MANLY - Central Springs has had North Union's number the last couple years and Friday's Class 2A Region Semifinal was no different, as the Panthers shut out the Warriors 8-0.

The two teams met in Swea City earlier this season with Central Springs winning 14-3. North Union won twice against the Panthers back in 2016.

In Friday's game, No. 6 Central Springs took the lead immediately with two runs in the first and one in the third. They then added two insurance runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Central Springs starter Cooper Klaahsen gave up just four hits to the 15th-ranked Warriors while striking out seven batters in five innings of work.

Kaylea Fessler pitched two innings of relief and gave up one walk with no hits or strikeouts.

Sam Nielsen had half of North Union's hits, as she went 2-3 at the plate. Kaylee Tirevold was 1-2 and Emily Meyer was 1-3.

North Union's Meyer pitched three innings in the loss, giving up five runs (two earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Lexie Vaske pitched three innings, giving up three earned runs on two hits with three walks and one hit batter.

North Union wraps up a 12-5 season and says farewell to its two seniors-Hope Steinberger and Kaylee Tirevold.
